Hey sweetie.
Next time, turn the temp of your car fryer down just a smidge and add a little extra cook time. Best of luck. Takes some playing with to get it right, hang in there. You will get it next time.
All air fryers are different and circulate air differently. So it’s trial and error to cook precooked fillets or chicken and chicken nuggets I too have had trouble with cooking precooked foods. I usually set timer for longer cook time then called for and I flip my fish or meats at midway in cooking time so if it calls for 9 minutes flip at 4 minutes 30 seconds then check at about 7 minutes if you think it needs to cook longer just close door or slide basket back in check in a minute to prevent making food hard or overcooked hope this helps. And always spray cooking surface with Pam or similar product to prevent sticking also helps in crispness of your breaded food.
Mine turned out perfect. You did something wrong. Learn how to use you air fryer.
First of all…you certainly have no right to judge a person asking a question about air frying since it is a newer method of cooking. You are very rude and you lead me to believe you cant cook anything at all with your so called great appliance…the air fryer. The air fryer for me was a gift and I infrequently use it but I fo periodically like a frozen fish. It’s not that easy to make perfect in an air friar. I noticed issues too but I’m one to make fully homemade meals on weekend without an air friar. The air friar is used in my houses for some weeknights due to the workload (no complaining) brought upon hard workers. In conclusion, think twice about how you respond to peoples’ questions about this newer technology.
First there was no question asked. Second you bad mouthed him for bad mouthing someone else. Hypocrite. Learn how to read.
First first of all, the person wasn’t asking a question. An opinion is a judgement. Everyone has a right to opinion/judgement. Michele was chock full of judgments. Bill’s turned out perfectly and from that Michele concludes Bill can’t cook! No one wanted to hear Michele’s life story about her air fryer. Michele needs to think four or five times before responding, and then not respond.
It’s a air FRYER not friar. Some foods come out perfect some don’t, i have cooked everything I can in mine just to get thru the learning curve of it and still side by side for just the wife and I, one food will be perfect and the other needs more time or is burnt. A learning curve is all it is. I love it, less electric use, no heat in my home and low fat food!
Recipe worked fine for me. I did not use spray though as it is no good for the air fryer and it didn’t stick.
“First of all…you certainly have no right…………………….” You lost me there.
I find that cooking food to the right internal temperature, usually works the best. No matter what kind of cooking you’re doing. I use a good digital instant read thermometer, especially when cooking any kind of meat or protein. I’ve had great success and some epic failures with my air fryer before using thermometer, way better success now. All Yall are being too critical and sensitive. “IT’LL BE FINE “
Mine turned out perfect as well. Loved them. Crispy on the outside, firm and moist and flaky on the inside. Maybe your fryer isn’t powerful enough and you didn’t adjust the cooking time or temp?
Mine turned out perfect as well. Could be the difference in air fryer brands … I owned one prior to my current air fryer and had to take it back – getting close to accurate temperatures was a challenge with the first one.
Mine turned out perfect and the next day we had some left over from night before and reheated them for 5. -6 minutes on 390 and tasted like just made!
Mine came out perfect! Delicious and so quic! Thank you, Frank. This new air fryer is awesome!!!!
Followed the instructions and the fish came out perfect …
I found that flipping them every 3 minutes worked great. Didn’t oil the fryer, but I cooked fries in the fryer before the fish.
Mine came out great. I use my air fryer almost daily, and love it. Also, I don’t need to preheat mine. It’s a Chef Ming.
Do you have to adjust the temp/time if you make 4 fillets instead of 2? Also can you put fries and fillets in together? If so what would be the temp/time? We tried meatloaf twice and I murdered it. I really want to learn how to use this fryer. I’m confused with using the probe or just following a recipe. Thanks for your time.
I tried the method twice with the same result. One side was almost crispy and the other side soggy. The interior was HOT.
Will try reducing temperature to 240(?) and do 10 minutes and turn over after 5. If I use the metal rack will cooking/trying be better? The air will reach all sides better.
TIA
HI Ron,
It sounds like your air fryer isn’t circulating the hot air properly. The idea of an air fryer is to circulate the air evenly around the food. If it’s over cooking one side and not the other, I would try manually turning over the food half way through, and to also ensure you aren’t overlapping any food, or over filling it. Be careful adjusting the temperature and cooking times as you could end up with very dry food. It’s the fast cooking time that gives food a crispy outside, and juicy inside result. Definitely try the metal rack. Anything that helps the circulation of air evenly around the food.
I just bought a Tower 2.3 litr and getting used to it, the first frozen thin fries I made were just OK, the next was frozen Birdseye fish and in 10 mins at the 200 the outside was done but inside dint seam right so I re heated the fryer to 180 and put them back in for 4 mins, they are really nice
Mine was perfect too. Thanks!
Oh wow they came out perfect
Am new but still working on twiking things. One thing to remember is this is a compact extra effective convection oven. If using what it says on a package cook at least 25 lower than what it calls for, such as… If it says cook at 350F, cook it at 325F. And I think there is a slight learning curve with each air fryer. Even if you have one a new one may not cook everything for the exact time and temp as you’re other air fryer. I also had problems with my frozen fish, I think next time I will try lower temp for longer time. I know I will learn what temp & time works and in time can just look and see when it is done.
I’ve been having great success with my air fryer. I cooked some frozen breaded fillets and prior to cooking I read some of the above comments about sometimes needing to tweak cooking in the air fryer. I backed off the temp and increased the cooking time a bit and they turned out pretty much restaurant quality. One mistake I’ll never repeat was putting, per directions, a tin foil “tent” over a BLOOMING ONION ( a la Outback Restaurant.) ..lol. The fan in the fryer sucked up the tin foil into the heating element and I ended up with a soggy limp appetizer. .GEEZE. So I found out you have to take the recipes with a grain of salt!
Today was the third time I used this recipe for my breaded frozen flounder and it turned out perfect as did the first two times.
perfect! this works, I turn my fish over after 5 minutes for the remaining 4, if it doesn’t look crispy, one extra minute worked.
turned out great !
390 ° F is too hot, you dry the fish outside, maybe not cooking completely inside. My Arifryer have a preset of 330 ° F abd 20 minutes for this.
So you use the fish preset? And this is from frozen, yes?
Question….can you make fish filets and fries at the same time together in the air fryer? If so, how? Thanks in advance! :)
I thought the fish was very good. It was crispy and tender inside. I was so pleased it was easy and quick to make.
I have the Emeril Lagasse 360. I put it on airfry @390 for 14 minutes, because I like my fish crispy, and it turns out perfect every time.
Mine came out so nice that I made fish fillet, better than McDonald’s
Does anyone have an answer to Carol Robinson’s March 26, 2019 questions above, concerning time and temp adjustments if you cook 4 or more fillets instead of 2? Or is it part of the “learning curve”? Thanks
Hi Don,
It’s not really a black and white answer because it would vary, The trick is to try and not have anything overlap. If they don’t overlap there shouldn’t be any difference in time or temperature, or if there is, it would be minimal. If they do overlap, then shake the basket often. I haven’t made 4 or more fillets at once, but I have made schnitzels and there isn’t any discernable difference.
Omgosh!!! I ended up burning mine reading the comments ! Well worth it though !
It must be the difference in the air fryers…I have a Corsi which is the basket kind I am going to use this recipe wish me luck!!
Came out perfect! Followed directions given and they were better than cooking in the oven!! Thank you for the air fryer directions.😊
We bought a large countertop unit, we love it through out our toaster and countertop b and d ,, wife just baked gingerbread in it delicious, I bake cookies in it , just had Gortons fish sandwiches , baked for 15 minutes in the basket, have done twin meatloafs in twin pyrex dishes ,, came out perfectly, only thing I saved my deep fryer for was my clam strips, did a 1″ thick porterhouse steak one night, absolutely delicious , hardly use our big oven anymore..
Since I’m the only person I cook for, I have a simple 2 qt. air fryer.. I have cooked many fish fillets in it. The Gorton’s fillets always come out perfect.. I can’t say the same for other brands. . I spray the basket with PAM, and cook the fillets at 390 for 9 – 11 minutes, depending on the weather – Yes, the weather does affect cooking. I also use a meat thermometer.
Perfect! Nice and crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside.
I’ve always just sprayed the food with avocado oil, not the basket. I’ve heard it’s not good for the non stick finish of the basket to spray it. I have Cosori 5.8 qt model.
Outstanding! Never have another way again- thanks
perfect fish fry
I never thought I would see such insults in a cooking blog comment section. haha I also had the issue where the outside is cooked perfectly after 8 or 9 minutes, but the inside isn’t quite right. I’m doing 390 degrees. I tried it twice yesterday, both times same issue. I’m thinking maybe cut it down to 375 and try for 10 or 11 minutes. My workaround yesterday was just to microwave them for about 25 seconds when done cooking. I’ll keep trying! Thanks for this website.
The insults are Hilarious! I have an instant pot air fryer. which definitely needs tweaking. I never spray the bottom, and I use a piece of parchment with holes I’ve added. 390° F at 10 minutes was too long. I flipped them at 5 minutes and removed them after another 3. If they’re not fried, the bottom will always be a little bit soggy, so I flipped them on the plate for the tartar sauce. Perfect!
I just bought an air fryer. I didn’t get the basket kind. Got the rack kind. So do I have to flip it half way. ? All my friends told me to buy the rack/shelves. The one shelf is a mesh? If you know what I mean. Air can get it on top and bottom. So. Do I have flip it. Thanks
Hi Bill,
Apologies for the delay. You generally don’t need to flip foods unless you see it’s cooking unevenly. You should definitely get into the habit of shaking half way though to stop anything from sticking.
I have the oven style instead of the basket. It came out perfectly.
