I made sirloin steak in my air fryer. It was the best steak I had. Got to love my airfryer I like it better than the microwave LOL
Don’t air fryers start timing AFTER they reach set temperature? In other words, why not start with the steak/s already in the fryer? The time set will begin once the temperature of the fryer = 390°F.
Hi Jim,
Not all air fryers automatically start timing as soon as you set the temperature. I have a Philips airfryer that beeps when it reaches the correct temperature, and then you manually start the timer.
More to the point though, the reason you don’t just put the steak or other food in the airfryer as soon as you turn it on is consistency. Ovens of all types take time to heat up. If the food is in the oven while it’s heating up, it’s essentially defrosting the food in the process, or partially cooking the food. This will substantially change the length of time needed to cook the food. Think of a standard recipe. They always tell you to preheat the oven first. It makes the cooking time more precise if everyone starts at the same point in time.
Also, and this is more specific to the airfryer, the airfryer is able to make things crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside because of the high temperature and short cooking time. If you put the food in before it reaches the temperature, you risk drying out the food on the inside, and then burning the outside because it’s been in the airfryer longer.
You’ll get better results if you preheat the airfryer first.
Do I turn the steaks halfway?
